Volunteer for school kids

What kind of volunteer have you ever done?

Our company holds many opportunities and programs of financial education, and we are supporting financial education in cooperative efforts with organizations such as Junior Achievement.

I applied for one of the volunteer programs we support, and today I did a volunteer for elementary school kids. It was an opportunity for children to learn social structure. I mean, the program is designed to give them a one-day hands-on learning in the virtual community which is called “Student City”. (The city looks almost real! You will be surprised if you see it!!!) After preparatory study in the classroom, those kids role-play employee and consumer in the “city”. There are several companies in the community like delivery, security, telephone, sport, and printing company. Also there are a public office, a convenience store, and of course our bank. Yea, it is the real small city!

When kids started playing their own role, they looked so confused and shy. They did not have an idea of working and greeting people. But they learned little by little and seemed to understand the difference between “working” and “playing”. They also held a meeting between each stage to discuss how to get things done efficiently. As you might imagine, they improved themselves A LOT. At the end of the program, they looked professional;-)

They said it was fun but got exhausted. Maybe, they knew how hard to earn money.

By doing the volunteer work today, I realized children can learn so fast. I got tired as well, but my day became a great one!

Guam

I went to Guam with my friend during my vacation last week, which was my late summer vacation. We wanted to go to Hawaii at first, but all the flights were already full when we made a reservation. So we decided to go to Guam instead.

We loved the blue ocean, the sky, and the sunshine. Those lifted my spirits! I got excited just by taking a walk on the beach.

On the second day, we went to Cocos Island which is located on the southern coast in Guam. We did some water sports like seawalker and banana boat. Seawalker gave us an opportunity to see underwater world! I could see many tropical and beautiful fish coming to me while I was feeding them. Our instructor allowed (forced) us to touched sea cucumber. It was a little bit disgusting for me though…I will never forget the experience! Anyway, the instructor gave us some little shells at the end of the seawalker. It was such a nice gift for us! And about banana boat, can you guess what happened to us??? We enjoyed it at first, and the instructor let us get off from the boat near the little sand beach which was almost in the sea. BUT when we got back on the boat, water did not come out from the jet ski dragging the boat…the engine was really heated up. You know, we had to wait in the middle of the sea until someone would notice us! We believed someone would save us, so we were pretty much relaxed “in the sea”, though we felt a little bit nervous. Yea, about thirty minutes later, another instructor came and found us. Thanks god! It was such a wonderful surprise, you know? We can hardly ever have the experience!

Only one thing my friend and I were not happy about Guam was there were too many Japanese. We are the ones who want to feel and enjoy foreign life when we are in another country. I thought 90 % of tourists in Guam were Japanese. Japanese food, letters, and songs were everywhere. No wander native people can speak Japanese so well. I think it is good to visit Guam for those who like to live in Japanese culture. But overall, I had a great time in Guam!

My vacation is over. It’s time to get back to work!

Hope You Are There

How nice it is to be told “I hoped you would be there.”

I have met so many people since I started working as a customer service representative. Admittedly, I am still far from a professional, but I think I did grow. I received a complaint many times and struggled over and over to meet customer’s needs, but I learned a lot from my supervisors and of course customers. What I have been trying is to work as best I can.

This week, one customer, who I helped her last transaction, told me that she hoped I would be there. Gosh, I never imagined that I was told so and I felt really happy. And yesterday, another customer told me that our company is the best.

It is challenging to provide good services to costumers to satisfy them. There are some who make complaints and claims on our services, but there are others who want to come to our branch/company.

Customers come first, and I want to be there for them.

Lunch with My Favorite People

Spending some time together with those who we love… don’t you think that makes our day just so wonderful?

The president of the company where I used to work as an intern invited me and his coworkers to his house to have lunch together. It’s been while since we last met, so I had been looking forward to seeing them and really enjoyed talking with them today. It was also a lot of fun to play his kids, who were full of energy ;-)

I felt so good after being with them, and my day became a wonderful one. Thank you!
